What is a Private GP?
In Northern Ireland, most patients have free access to an NHS GP.

Why pay to see a private GP in Belfast?
Some patients, for example those from Overseas, may not be entitled to free NHS care, and may be required to pay for access to a GP in Northern Ireland.
Due to long-term under-investment, many GP practices are under increasing pressure, leading some practices to close, and other practices reducing the services that they are able to provide. Many patients therefore may have difficulty booking a consultation with their NHS practice.
Many patients may also have difficulty accessing specialised GP services such as Joint injections, Minor surgery, contraceptive services and weight loss treatments.
Belfast Private GP offers an extensive array of services for patients to access. We offer private GP consultations and other services, with flexibility in terms of availability and the type of consultation you require. Our fees are competitively priced.
Will accessing Belfast Private GP affect my NHS GP?
No.
Belfast Private GP services are available to patients whether they are registered with an NHS GP or not. Accessing private GP services does not affect your right to remain registered and access care through your NHS GP as normal
With your permission, we can send details of your consultations to your NHS GP, so that it can be added to your NHS GP medical record. Appointments can also be kept confidential if you prefer.
How can I book an appointment?

Do I have to pay for A Private Prescription?
Unlike many other private providers, Belfast Private GP does not charge for issuing an initial private prescription. The cost of issuing a private prescription is included in the cost of your consultation.
The pharmacy will however, charge the cost of the medicine that has been prescribed.
Medicines issued on NHS prescription by an NHS GP are usually free, however some medicines (such as drugs for erectile dysfunction) may not be provided for free by the NHS.
If you require a Repeat prescription, you can schedule a follow up GP consultation. Alternatively, we may be able to provide a 'Repeat' of some prescriptions without the need for a follow up appointment. A GP must review the request and be content that it is safe and appropriate for a repeat prescription to be issued and signed. We therefore charge a small fee of £25 for provision of a repeat prescription.
How can I get my prescription?
During a face to face consultation, a paper prescription will be completed where required. For remote consultations we can send you an electronic prescription direct to your device, which can be redeemed from any pharmacy or even posted to your home.

If you have selected 'initial Joint injection consultation' and your problem is suitable for an injection, then yes. Our doctors will assess your suitability and whether it is safe to proceed with the procedure. With your consent, the dr can proceed to injection during this initial appointment.
The procedure for joint injection involves a sterile technique, cleaning of the area. Following cleaning of the skin, the doctor will insert a small needle into the joint space. The solution for injection is then added and then the needle is withdrawn. The skin will be wiped clean again and then an appropriate dressing applied to the area. The actual injection only takes a few minutes.
You may experience a mild discomfort during the injection, but it is usually no worse than a blood test.
Pricing is simple.

The cost of procedure varies depending on the size and type of lesion and is outlined on the main minor surgery page.
If your skin lesion requires histopathology -there is an additional lab cost of this, and the doctor will advise you if this is required and what this cost is at your consultation, before the procedure.
Aftercare costs, for example removal of sutures Is included in the procedure cost.
IF you have selected minor surgery initial consultation, our doctor will examine the lesion and advise you of what procedure is required and costs involved. If you are happy to proceed, then the dr will be able to carry out the procedure on the same visit, however if the lesion is larger it may require a second longer appointment.
